Last update: August 12, 2026

The DNREC State Energy Office (SEO) is responsible for developing and updating building energy conservation codes to improve the comfortability, affordability, and energy efficiency of buildings throughout Delaware.

The SEO is mandated to review Delaware’s energy code every three years. The SEO refers to International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) guidelines for residential buildings, and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) guidelines for commercial and high-rise residential buildings.
